In saying all that, I have put together a little project, for any room, that was really fun to knit. Get out your old fabrics and chunky wooden knitting needles to make a gorgeous floor rug.
12mm knitting needles, 35cm long
Lengths of cotton fabric (in as many colors as you choose, I used 4)
Preparing the fabric
Precut all fabric into strips of 4cm x 100cm (or length of fabric).
Join fabric pieces and roll into balls. (See the "No Sew Fabric Join Tutorial)
Knitting the rug
With 12mm knitting needles, cast on 30 stitches.
Knit every row. Knit 60 rows.
Join new fabrics as needed. Change colours as you desire, cutting the fabric at the end of a row and rejoining as needed.
Cast off loosely.
Rug shape and size.
The rug pictured, measures 30cm x 40cm. (excluding tassels). If you want a larger rug cast on extra stitches at the beginning or knit for more rows.
Using the leftovers or scraps of fabric, add fabric tassels to the edges of your rug. Using the "Making fabric tassels" tutorial.
Once complete, throw on the floor and ahem....watch people walk on it...
