Let me tell you what is good about this pattern: This pattern is screaming to be made and thrown onto every crocheters couch - like, in the world. It's just gorgeous. The colours that the book uses are so oddly well combined, everything from coral and soft pink to emerald and grey... It just works. The pattern is rated 2/4 stars for easy. It is just that step above the basic granny square with its use of increases and decreases happening from the get - go! The diamond is comprised of the treble stitch throughout. If you are looking to up your crochet game, get into this pattern!
Extra bits you should know before casting on: I mentioned the colour scheme used in the book, which is tremendous! However, don't be put off by all the colours especially if 12 balls of cotton for one cushion is out of your price range. You can definitely play with colour as I did, using only 6 different colours. Also, it is good to note that this cushion is 60cmx 30 cm, which is a long rectangle - not a traditional square as some may prefer. I used a mercerised cotton which made for a nice dense fabric that will hold up nicely in a cushion. However, if you plan on making the blanket, I recommend something much softer with more drape. In terms of stuffing, I was unable to find a cushion insert 60 cm wide that when folded over, as recommended in the book would actually fit inside the cushion. As an alternative, I bought a king size thin wadding pack, cut a third off and folded that to fill the long cylinder shape. This cushion has been a hit in our home, there have already been requests for many more!
