The truth is, there is someone else. Yes, this person who is not even 13 cm yet, is consuming all my energy. If you haven't guessed, I'm telling you that I'm pregnant and have been for four months. I don't want to ever use this as an excuse again for not writing blog posts and keeping you updated, but bare with me... I am very new to pregnancy!
That aside, I have recently finished a project in the making for a friend's baby due in early March. If you are looking for baby blanket ideas, I'd like to recommend a lovely pattern.
Pattern: Zig Zag Sock yarn pram blanket
Size made: 60X80 cm
Yarn: Bamboo/cotton mix
Needles: 4.5mm circular
Let me tell you what's good about this pattern: This pattern is ideally for all those bits and pieces of left over sock yarn, which creates an array of variegated colour. the pattern creates what is known as a "chevron" (zigzag effect) and can be quite relaxing to settle into. It's not a complex pattern, including basic increase (kfb:knit front and back) and decrease (slk2togpsso: slip one, knit two together, pass over) so is a great pattern for people looking to explore new territory but who aren't quite ready for lace. The finished results make the perfect gift for new mothers and their baby.
Extra bits you should know before casting on: This pattern didn't require any changes except for the yarn selection and thus the chosen colour scheme. The good news is, there are many knitter's who've tried and tested all sorts of colours so I encourage you to check them out on Ravelry for some great ideas. My friend whom I made this for really likes neutral colours, so I followed twinepixie's lead with Harriet's blanket.
