I had this brilliant idea that I would crochet two large individual circles, throw them in the washer machine, sew them up and presto! A new bag.
Not quite... I crochet two large circles (using a treble stitch) with a circumference of approximately 46 cm. A somewhat tedious task. I threw them in the washer machine with a little detergent and one towel (for extra friction) and then...did it again! Twice washed, the circles came out to a freshly felted size 37.5 cm- a decent sized hand bag.
With a sharp crochet hook, I joined the two circles (using a single crochet stitch) and sewed in a lovely polka dotted fabric for a lining. Then came the handles. Submerged in my DIY attitude, I decided to make my own handles out of braided leather and attach them to the bag via a funky wooden bead. Which I did. And then I wore the bag proudly around the city until.... Snap! The leather kept snapping off the bag and every time I re tied them on they would snap on the other side. To which I carried the bag home (sans handles) threw it on my pile of shame, crossed my arms and ran away.
But I love the "Blue Spotted Bag (finally finished)". So a few days later, I picked the bag up and sewed on some lovely beaded (really strong) pre made handles. I compromised with my DIY lifestyle. We met halfway and are quite happy that the bag is a success.
